Product job
The App is designed for apartment owners and intercom companies. We combined smart home services into one app to keep the area clean along with the yard and entryway free of intruders. The App maintains various functions —calls, camera recordings, opening intercoms and barriers, event history and communication with neighbors.
Description
I worked together with the lead designer. My responsibilities on the project included creating the design system, drawing the functionality
of the App, support of the administrative platform for management and intercom companies, as well as working out interface texts.
Home page
During my work the entire app was completely redesigned.In addition, we worked out the functionality of stories and the settings of the homepage.
Face Recognition
The user logs into the App, activates the service, adds his face and the faces of his family members. After that, to open the intercom, the user only needs to look into the camera. In the application, you can addnew users, replace photos, delete and edit the name. This is the first MVP in which the service was free for users.
Share Access
The problem appeared after our testing. We found out that the existing process of inviting users wasn't clear and inconvenient,
and according to statistics, 86% of users would like to add family members and provide them access. The user had to contact
the management company to invite people.
We have developed a new functionality that allows you to add family members to the App and give them access to CCTV, barriers
and intercoms. The head of the family has an invitation section added to his profile. The user needs to enter the phone number
to which the registration link will be sent. The added family member taps the link, registers and enters the App with full functionality
(except the ability of an invitation).
Devices
After research, we realized that most users misunderstand the name of the "Services" section and think that there are ads there. We decided to rename the tab from "Services" to "Devices" and redesigned all the internal pages.
Sign up
We have updated the process of the first entry into the App for residents and their family members. Now, if the tariff plan wasn't selected initially when signing the contract, then the client is offered 2 weeks of free access by default. And if the resident wants to prolong the tariff — this can be done right in the App. Also, the client can pay for the service with a bank card.
Profile
We have completely redesigned the "Profile" section and integrated correct information about connected subscriptions in it. When user pays for a service through a management company, the service is not displayed in the profile. And customers can only see the "Top up your balance" button. This decision was made due to technical limitations. It is planned to transfer all users to pay for services through the App
in the next iterations.
During the work, all possible subscription states in different statuses were worked out, and the possibility of connecting several services
at once was kept in mind. In addition, the "Payment methods" section has been added.
Design System
Along with the tasks, I was developing a product design system. The main requirements were that the design should be cross-platform:
the significant thing is that every component in the design should be the same whatever the platform.
During the year of work on the design system, we managed to create more than 200 components, completely redesign colors, font styles, icons, illustrations, shadow styles and grids for different devices. In addition, each component was implemented in light and dark themes, which made it possible to get rid of the need to draw screens for 2 themes. Components and well-chosen colors solved this problem.
Thanks to cooperation with developers, we have connected a system for automatic unloading of colors, styles, icons, illustrations from Figma. When one of the styles/icons/colors was updated, the developer pressed 1 Update button, and in all places where a particular resource was used, an automatic update occurred. We have completely abandoned the manual updating of icons, illustrations, styles.
This solution made it possible to flexibly manage components and quickly make any changes at the front.
Finally
During my time in the project, we managed to improve design processes, build our own cross-platform design system, redesign most part of the App and conducted several global researches among our users. Moreover, a full-fledged design-review process was implemented with the participation of all development teams — iOS, Android, Web. As a result, the development of the front-end has been improved significantly.
